Letter to the Editor - Wednesday, June 4: End of an era

MANY readers will know that Rick Haines and myself have been the ground handling contractors for Qantaslink since 1990. In that time the airline went from a shared flight with Grafton each day to 200,000 passengers that it is at present. These activities were commercially supported by our travel agency activities (Kelly Travel and now Coffs Coast Travel).

The greatest contribution to the airline's business has been our fantastic team of check in and loaders over this time. Good conscientious people who have loyally, honourably and compassionately gone about the business of creating goodwill and value for Qantaslink and their customers.

In these times of uncaring corporate behaviour we have all finished up Tuesday evening. This is an empty space for our people to find themselves in after 24 years.

We would like to thank these people in our team for their unwavering loyalty, friendship and goodwill, as our colleagues and employees. We hope for the future for them and their families and wish them well.

Coffs Coast Travel is still very much open for business at the airport.

PAUL KELLY
