Letter to the Editor - Wednesday, July 2: Piles of poo

RECENTLY when I visited Park Beach with my two small dogs I took two bags from the council-supplied dispenser to collect their droppings.

There were plenty of bags there but I was disgusted at what I went on to find - too many deposits to count. I picked up 10 with my bags and then stopped counting.

Vile mounds simply left by owners of dogs. I saw dog-walkers, mostly men, but no evidence of bags (full or otherwise). The only person with one was a woman. An interesting observation - do men consider it beneath them, or un-manly, to pick up dog poo?

Resident dog-walking owners should be ashamed of themselves and the image, or impression, they give to others of our beautiful coastline. They are fouling their own backyard in the most literal sense.

A tourist saw what I was doing and said "you should write a letter to the local paper". Let's hope those who should do, read this, take notice and have their conscience pricked.
