Letter to the Editor - Saturday, November 1:Rate rise outrage

COUNCIL is currently conducting so-called consultations on a rate increase for a new entertainment centre, library and art gallery. They are also proposing increases of 8.14% and 7.75% over the next two years.

My mother lives in Mosman, one of the most affluent suburbs in Sydney. The value of her land would be 10-times that of my block at Boambee East, yet her rates are significantly less.

Either council is hopelessly inefficient, their priorities for expenditure are all wrong, or ratepayers are still paying for council's poor investment decisions during the global financial crisis.

Whatever the reason, it should not be up to ratepayers to pay for council's ineptitude.

The Coffs Coast is a great place to live. Unfortunately our quality of life is being significantly eroded by the actions of our elected representatives on council.
