Letter to the Editor - Saturday, May 9: Cold, hard justice
IN REPLY to Rose Gow's Letter (Advocate May 2) the reason for death row as is what it is called is to give the accused time to prove their innocence if they so are.
It takes time for defence lawyers to appeal the sentence of death and habeas corpus procedures.
In the United States this can take on average 15 years.
It has been known in the past where condemned prisoners were executed after only a short time and later proven to be completely innocent.
Rose I agree it is a waste of life, but these men dealt with drugs in a country whose law is death for drug smugglers.
They knew the risk they rolled the dice and lost.
I feel for the loved ones left behind who now face a life sentence
