Letter to the Editor - Saturday, June 14: Thanks, Coffs Coast

THE Coffs Coast community deserves a huge pat on the back for the wonderful support, outstanding generosity and spirit they showed during Cancer Council's 2014 Relay for Life.

Once again, the event was inundated with rain but the weather couldn't dampen the spirits of the families, friends and school students, who were fantastic, donning their wet-weather gear, walking shoes and boots for 24 hours while helping to raise funds for our Research, Information and Support Services. Local businesses were just so supportive of the event, with their participation, sponsorship and donation of some wonderful prizes to the teams for their raffles.

The entire Coffs Coast community should be very proud of themselves, raising around $100,000. This magnificent effort was attributable to the wonderful efforts of teams such as Just Keep Walking, whose goal was to raise $5000 but, in fact, raised a whopping $7,137; Subway and the wonderful mascots who helped raise a creditable $4300; and the plethora of other teams whose magnificent efforts were outstanding.

A big thank you to the 2014 RFL Committee with their tireless efforts and amazing organisational skills.
