Letter to the Editor - Saturday, July 25: Carbon calamity

THE pursuit of the dream of "carbon" free energy is creating ecological catastrophes all around the world. From the destruction of forest in the United States to create biomass to power England's electricity station to wind turbines mainly on productive land killing millions of birds and bats to 40 hydro-electric schemes in Brazil which put more CO2 into the atmosphere than they save.

Havoc is being wrought in Asia where thousands of kilometres of rainforest are being destroyed as well as most of the wildlife.

Now two universities that study the sun predict that a mini ice age is swiftly approaching and agreeing with Russian scientists who have been predicting that event is more likely than warming.
