Letter to the Editor - July 12: Support for school chaplains

IN spite of the criticism, the chaplaincy program is well supported by both major parties.

A comprehensive study by psychologists - through the University of New England - on the effectiveness of school chaplains found that most schools considered the work the chaplains were doing as very important and effective, and 90% of principals would like to see the program expanded.

Also 75% of students liked having the chaplains and found them more approachable than the authoritarian figure of the teachers.
