Letter to the Editor - January 10: Independent Palestine

I FIND it sad that Australia joined the USA in rejecting the recent UN Security Council Resolution, that Israel withdraw from all occupied territories by 2017 and that Palestine be recognised as an independent state.

As an Aussie, where one's home is one's castle, I well understand how it would feel to be forcibly removed from my home and then have it taken over by others.

Now to have $150m in Palestinian taxes denied them by Israel and $400m in aid from the USA in jeopardy, seems a little harsh to me.

I am not taking sides in this tit-for-tat war and whether or not Hamas is supported by the Palestinian Government, but it does seem to be a concerted campaign against the Palestinians.

They suffer wherever they are around the Middle East.

They should be recognised and given legitimacy, human rights and some dignity.

Or, one way or another, are they to be wiped out?
