Letter to the Editor - February 14: Outrageous charges
GREAT article in the Advocate on how to read and analyse our electricity bills. However, did you also notice the high percentage of charges on every bill, covering "supply to house" and GST.
In my case, on my last bill, supply to house equals $117.66, and GST equals $37.71. So that is a total of $155.37, which equals over 30% of my total bill. Outrageous.
So no matter how much you try your best to keep your power bill down, these are uncontrollable charges which inflate our bills dramatically. Surely if currently we own our poles and wires, and yet we are still charged such exorbitant fees for supply, can you imagine how much higher these charges will be, if we allow Mike Baird to sell our poles and wires.
Questions to be asked: how come our supply is so expensive, surely if we own this infrastructure, supply should be free, and we should only be charged for usage?
Also why do pensioners not get exemption on GST on power bills?
