Letter to the Editor - December 3: We’ll be worse off

I AM WRITING in shock at council's recent rate increase "promotion". In the age of information technology and access that a lot of people have to the internet, it seems somewhat ironic to spend a small fortune on brochures and mailing to try and justify asking for rate increases approximately three times in excess of the CPI.

The brochure states that council "needs to live within our means". If council had their exorbitant increase many families would not be able to live within theirs.

While it is obvious that revenue is required to maintain public assets, your proposal clearly lacks a good understanding of what's needed, and will only leave people who currently struggle worse off. I would suggest the source of raising revenue would be better achieved through more thoughtful ideas.
