Letter to the Editor - August 1: Cancer support appreciated

WE WISH to publicly acknowledge the hard work and contribution that has been made to cancer patients in this local area over the years by the Regional Cancer Services Committee members.

Sadly, Regional Cancer Services recently made the decision to close after nearly 30 years of service to the local community.

Regional cancer services has been extremely generous with their assistance to the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute purchasing equipment, such as devices that allow a continuous flow of pain relief medication, a practice arm for new staff to practice inserting intravenous lines, gowns for radiation therapy patients and a pressure relieving mattress for patients who are unable to move in bed while in the department.

Regional Cancer Services have supported on-site accommodation for patients who had to travel to Coffs Harbour to enable them to receive cancer treatment.

They have advocated for low-cost accommodation and access to travel assistance for those who may be facing an associated financial burden.

Thankyou on behalf of staff and the many patients who have benefited from your years of service - their efforts are very much appreciated and will be remembered.
