Letter to the Editor - April 9: Still doubting Pioneer plan

I HAVE followed with interest the decision by Coffs Harbour City Council to totally ignore the protests by residents against installing lights to replace the roundabout at Gordon St intersection and permanently closing Pioneer Park.

Obviously, the present roundabout was built too high to allow stormwater to exit the mall, however lowering the present roundabout and increasing the stormwater drainage capacity would alleviate the problem.

Any long term resident knows that High St where the now present mall is located had deep gutters to stop stormwater entering shops and to exit quickly.

It is an extreme decision and costly to go down the path the council is proposing and totally unnecessary. The road through Pioneer Park will cause chaos and take away a lovely green space in the city centre and valuable car parking.

Anybody with an ounce of common sense knows that council's present decision regarding the Gordon St intersection is wrong.
