Let's hope the Federal Budget supports Toowoomba
THIS could be the last budget handed down by the Federal Government before the next election, so it is of vital importance to the Prime Minister and his colleagues.
Let's hope this translates to some meaningful outcomes for Toowoomba and its residents.
Tax cuts have been singled out as a talking point for the budget, and there is every reason to believe treasurer Scott Morrison will hand down the "feel-good budget" many have predicted.
One of the major tax cuts the government has gone to great effort to highlight is the one that was placed on craft breweries that used smaller kegs.
I am certainly in the demographic that welcomes the move, but it seems like an obvious tax to axe, and it's not going to have any affect on families.
An easy win for sure, but not enough to get everyone on board.
Hopefully our core services receive significant support, particularly health and education.
Our Federal Member for Groom, John McVeigh, has outlined his wishes for the budget, so let's hope they come true tonight.
His priorities, mentioned in The Chronicle last week, include the inland rail, the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and flood-proofing parts of Toowoomba.
I'm sure many will be watching with great interest tonight to ensure the Garden City gets its fair share of funding.
