THE top line longboard surfers may not get the same amount of kudos and media attention that the short board stars get but the action and competition can be just as intense.
Starting tomorrow, Coffs Harbour can see some of the best longboard action going around when the state's best vie for a huge honour in the Park Beach Plaza NSW State Titles.
The best thing about the week is that there are several local surfers in real contention to take the prize, especially current world number one and Emerald Beach product Harley Ingleby.
Joining him in the open section will be fellow Emerald boy Paul Scholten and Sapphire Beach's Jared Neal.
Don't expect the local boys to have it all their own way when the Open section begins on Wednesday afternoon, though.
There's last year's winner Kevin Holt from Shellharbour and former national junior champ Ruben Roxburgh from Lennox Head, as well as Angourie's Bryce Young and Wollongong's Dane Pioli.
Tomorrow night all competitors will be at the official launch at the Coast Hotel where the competition location will be announced. If current conditions continue then the most likely venues will be either Park Beach or Diggers Beach.
Competition gets underway just after dawn tomorrow with the opening heats for the over 35s, 40s, 45s, 50s, 55s and 60s and the women's over 35s.
The action in the 13 different divisions will run for seven straight days and with a huge swell predicted, there should be plenty of action for spectators to catch.
