COACH Darren Lehmann admitted he needed to rebuild the Australian team after the disastrous Ashes campaign in England that saw fast bowler Ryan Harris and captain Michael Clarke announce their retirements.
But Lehmann said that process would not start until after the fifth and final Test of the series at The Oval, starting next Thursday.
"There are going to be tough calls somewhere. We're not afraid to make the tough call, but you've got to also look after Australian cricket in the right way and we've got to make sure we're doing the right things by the players, both old and new," he said.
Lehmann (pictured) would not be drawn on whether Brad Haddin, Chris Rogers, Shane Watson and Adam Voges had played their last Tests for their country.
Prior to the fifth Test, Australia will play a three-day match against county side Northamptonshire, starting on Friday.
