Learn responsible pet ownership at free community event

SUNSHINE Coast families and their pets have been invited to a free Dogs on Patrol Fun Day, that aims to promote responsible ownership and safety to dog walkers.

Organised by Bli Bli Neighbourhood Watch, Sunshine Coast Police and Nambour PCYC, the day will include demonstrations and displays by Bli Bli Neighbourhood Watch, Crime Stoppers, RSPCA and Guide Dogs.

Bli Bli Neighbourhood Watch president, Edith Blanck, said the day would be full of fun for both dogs and their owners.

"We wanted to promote responsible ownership amongst the community, all with a good laugh surrounded by the dogs of the community,” she said.

"We will have lots of competitions including Best Dressed Dog, Best Junior Handler, Handsomest Hound, Most Fabulous Family, Loveliest Lady and Most Gorgeous Golden Oldie.”

There will also be a free Dogs on Patrol dog leash for every dog that registers either on the Facebook event page or at the registration desk on the day, as well as great activities for the kids including a Jumping Castle and a free petting zoo, sponsored by Bli Bli Vet, which is also celebrating 20 years in Bli Bli.

"It is very much a family-friendly event. We want all families to come and have a chat to Neighbourhood watch and the RSPCA to make sure everyone, including our dogs are safe in our community,” Mrs Blanck said.

Bli Bli Neighbourhood Watch will have a sausage sizzle, drinks and cake stall with delicious biscuits and muffins and there will also be a Bossy Coffee van and Barcobi Ice Cream.

Raffle tickets for a custom-made diamond ring worth $12,500 from Sunstate Jewellers will also be on sale.

Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt will officially open the event at 9.30am with a welcome to country.

The event will be on Sunday July 28, from 9.30am-1pm at the Nambour PCYC, 10 Youth Ave, Nambour.
