Learn how to drive a steam locomotive on miniature railway
ANYONE can learn how to drive a steam locomotive at the Sunshine Coast Railway Modellers Society's miniature railway in Nambour.
The society is based in Miniature Railway Park in Florence St and is looking for new members who can become involved in every aspect of operating a passenger-carrying railway.
Members can help in whichever department they are interested in - working on the track or carriages, locomotive maintenance or selling tickets on the train-running days.
Members will also be taught rail safety and eventually how to drive the society's locomotives, leading up to driving the steam engines.
The society meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month to prepare the trains and track for the Running Day, which is on the 4th Sunday of every month.
In addition, Members Only Days allows members to "play trains” on the society's extensive miniature railway facility.
Invitation Days allow members of other miniature railway clubs to visit the Nambour track with their locos.
A special open day on Sunday, March 17, from 10.30am until 1pm at the railway in Florence St Park Nambour welcomes potentials members to see the trains and extensive dual-gauge track.
