League juniors up and flying
THE temperatures may still be soaring but the winter sports have definitely returned.
And it isn’t just the adults who have taken to the fields.
Juniors are making their on-field returns in the four football codes as well as to the basketball court.
School rugby sevens was played at BCU
International Stadium yesterday.
The popular high school and primary school basketball competitions commenced at the weekend while the region’s best young AFL players are preparing to play in curtain-raisers prior to the NAB Challenge match to be played at BCU International Stadium on March 12.
Rugby league isn’t missing out on early action, either.
A registration day was held on Saturday and with players from NRL club South Sydney on hand, there was a big increase in the number of juniors signing up for the coming season.
On Sunday, North Coast Football’s State Youth League teams played a pre-season trial at Urunga against the best players on offer from Mid North Coast.
It seems there aren’t summer and winter seasons anymore when it comes to sport.
