League and union's Salter Oval resolution

UNION: The Queensland Country Championships will be held at Salter Oval after an agreement was reached between the Bundaberg Rugby Union (BRU) and Bundaberg Rugby League (BRL).

The NewsMail can reveal a contract between the two is set to be signed and finalised in the next week to confirm the arrangement.

Set to be held from June 2 to 4, there was some doubt over the venue being used with the BRL hosting two games in the A-Grade at Salter Oval at the same time.

In order to move, the BRL wanted compensation from the BRU to allow them to use the venue for the weekend.

BRL chairman Mike Ireland said that had now been solved and they would move to another venue for the weekend.

"We are in the process of having a contract drawn up by our solicitor for both parties' security,” he said.

"This just protects us and the union for the weekend.”

Not revealing if any payments were made, the BRL did reveal where the games would now be played over that weekend.

"We will be playing our A-Grade, reserve and under-18 matches at the Brothers Sports Complex on the Sunday,” he said.

"At this stage we haven't decided where the juniors will play.”

In A-Grade, the matches at Brothers will see Western Suburbs take on Eastern Suburbs with Brothers to face The Waves.

The other two matches of the round will see Maryborough Brothers take on the Wallaroos and Isis facing Hervey Bay in Maryborough.

Queensland Country Championships organiser Luke McCloskey welcomed the news and said sponsors and plans were already in place.
