Ladies Oaks Day turns on a celebration
LEADEN, overcast skies did not dampen the enthusiasm of thousands of trackside punters cheering on the horses at Corbould Park yesterday.
Ladies Oaks Day was the place to be for fine frocks, champagne, a cheeky bet and plenty of on-track action during the annual race meeting.
A live performance from one of the country's hottest musical acts, XFactor 2012 winner Samantha Jade, was a highlight of the day.
Police were out in force throughout the day and a 10-hour traffic operation followed into the night.
Caloundra station officer-in-charge Brendan Newman said most patrons did not let their exuberant behaviour get out of hand at the celebrations.
"The crowd has been fairly well-behaved and there have only been a few evictions for intoxicated patrons," Acting Senior sergeant Newman said.

A traffic management operation started late yesterday afternoon between the Sunshine Coast Turf Club and the Caloundra CBD.
"Our management plans were typical of any major race day," Acting Snr Sgt Newman said.
"We have put a lot of resources into the day to ensure people are following the road rules and getting home safe.
The traffic operation was still under way last night at the time of print.
