Kym sashed our 2016 Coffs Coast Showgirl

PROUD Coffs Coast resident Kym Ferrington is on a mission to promote and encourage more young people into agriculture.

The 24-year-old has been crowned our region's showgirl for 2016 during official proceedings at Saturday's Coffs Harbour Show.

The Northern Beaches resident said the title presents an opportunity to promote the Coffs Coast including the region's diverse agricultural sectors.

"I've become an ambassador for Coffs Harbour which is an amazing honour," she said.

"We have agricultural industries including cattle, oysters, blueberries and bananas and it's important to get the next generation and youth behind it.

"I grew up on farms and I worked in the blueberry industry for five years so getting young people engaged in agriculture is something I'm passionate about."

Kym - who runs a networking business and teaches dancing - expects the role of showgirl will keep her busy in the coming year.

"I'm looking forward to being a part of the committee and help with the running of the show because it's all year round," she said.

Kym will also go to the zone titles - due to be held in Coffs Harbour in February next year.

The zone winner will go to the Royal Easter Show in Sydney to attend functions and present awards to winners of agricultural exhibits.

Saturday's show also saw Brittany Lee named teenage showgirl winner, and Jessica Franklin the junior showgirl.
