Knives brandished in vicious Sawtell robbery

POLICE are appealing for public assistance following a vicious armed robbery in Sawtell on Sunday night.

Around 9pm, staff at the Sawtell Bowling Club were closing up when three offenders allegedly wielding knives stormed the residence, jumped the main bar area and threatened staff before demanded money.

They obtained a significant amount of cash before escaping on foot, and are believed to have last been seen fleeing south along the footpath.

It is believed no one was injured and no other damage to the club was sustained.

The offenders, who had their faces covered during the robbery, can only be described as being male and with 'dark complexions'.

The club yesterday declined to comment on the incident. Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command acting crime manager, Peter O'Reilly, said they are working on a number of leads.

“Police have canvassed the area and investigations are continuing,” he said.

He denied any links to the spate of armed robberies in the local area command some months ago.

If you have any information contact Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command on 6652 0210 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
