Knights keep their hopes alive

NEWCASTLE kept its finals playoff hopes alive with a convincing 26-4 win over Cronulla last night

The Knights went into the halftime break with a 12-0 lead after five-eighth Jarrod Mullen opened the scoring with a try in the 16th minute before centre Dane Gagai scored the second in the 27th minute. Halfback Tyrone Roberts was successful with both conversions.

Although possession was fairly equal in the first half, the telling statistic was metres gained with the Knights dominating with 859m gained compared to the Sharks 626m at the break.

Newcastle again opened the scoring in the second half with fullback Darius Boyd crossing the chalk in the 46th minute with Roberts adding the extras.

Cronulla winger John Williams got one back for the Sharks in the 56th minute, which Todd Carney failed to convert, before Akuila Uate and Kevin Naiqama scored to seal the Knights' victory.
