Kingi and Caro aiming for number one as Block auction nears

THE Block's Kingi and Caro are backing themselves to win the renovation show's grand prize.

The Townsville parents hope to pip Dean and Shay's penthouse at auction with their first floor apartment.

The two teams have danced around each other at the top of the leader board all season and are the clear favourites of the show's judging panel.

"It's really good to see our whole vision come together. We love our apartment, now we've just got to sell it," Caro tells APN.

But they remain realistic about the volatility of the Melbourne property market.

"After The Block didn't have that good a run that (Glasshouse) season, it makes you be realistic in your expectations of what can happen on auction day," she says.

"You know you could come home with something or you could come home with nothing, which I think is good because it prepares you.

"I just hope we all come home with money; I hope we all make a killing but obviously I hope we win."

The couple thinks a modest reserve price for their first floor apartment will be their ticket to a profitable result.

"This competition is not who sells their apartment for the most but who makes the most over their reserve, so coming in with the lowest reserve has to work in your favour," Caro says.

"Even though we've done well throughout the whole series that doesn't mean we'll do well on auction day. Anyone can win this and we know that."

Interest in Kingi's work as a renderer has exploded since the show debuted, but he and Caro already have an important project lined up after The Block.

"We've got a house we just bought a day before we flew down to Melbourne and it's a renovator," she says.

"We got the keys on the Monday and we flew to The Block on Wednesday, so I'm quite keen to do up our own home. I just want to make our house beautiful before we do anything else."

The Block grand final airs Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel 9/WIN.
