Kingaroy store marks a decade
IT IS an anniversary marking a decade of trading, but Kingaroy's store 'The Look' tells a long story of survival.
Owner Christine Littlejohns said the 10th birthday celebrations for the Kingaroy Shoppingworld store would consist of specials and cupcakes in store on Thursday, June 28.
"We're celebrating being a business that long and its been a long, hard haul, but we're still here and encourage people to shop locally,” she said.
There would be $10 off vouchers for when someone spends $20 or more on any items in the store, except dancewear, Ms Littlejohns said.
The store, which moved last year within the Shoppingworld from where Muffin Break currently is, aims to stock only a few of each item to ensure each piece is unique.
"It's a one-stop shop for fashion from head to toe, as well as the dancewear for the little tippy toes, and the unusual,” she said.
Ms Littlejohns was initially the owner of budget jewellery and accessories retail franchise chain Kleins at Kingaroy Shoppingworld 15 years ago.
When Kleins went into receivership in 2008, 'The Look' became one of two out of 46 Queensland stores to still sell similar offerings as the franchise 10 years on.
"Surviving this long is an achievement in itself, with the way retail is at the moment, we seem to keep plodding along,” Ms Littlejohns said.
Her store underwent a name change, introduced a clothing line and is now the only store in the South Burnett to stock hats and race fascinators all year round.
Ms Littlejohn enjoys getting to meet all of the different and friendly people who come into the store to browse through her wares.
"It is important for a community to support all local businesses because without their support, we're not going to be here and they will then have to go out of town to buy whatever they need,” she said.
