GOTYE and Kimbra have won top honours for the second year in a row at the 2012 ARIA Awards, which was held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and featured many national and international stars.

Melbourne-based artist Gotye claimed 4 ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year for 'Making Mirrors'.

Another Melbourne-based act The Temper Trap took home the ARIA award for Best Rock Album for their self-titled record.

They also won Best Group, which is an award they won in 2010.

New Zealand's Kimbra secured her Australian status as the top female artist by winning Best Female for her debut album 'Vows'.

ARIA favourite Missy Higgins added another award to her collection with Best Adult Contemporary Album for 'The Ol' Razzle Dazzle'.

The highlight of the night was when Australian music icons Yothu Yindi were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame by Paul Kelly and former Midnight Oil frontman and current Minister for Education Peter Garrett.

They were joined on stage by Andrew Farriss, Dan Sultan, and Jessica Mauboy for a moving tribute to their international hit 'Treaty'.
