Kids win cross country

IT was youth to the fore in Sunday’s shorter events in the second round of the MNC Cross Country Series.

The pattern continued among the men in the 10km event at Woolgoolga Lake.

Ben Law made the long trek well and truly his with a convincing win on the more technical and slightly long course.

Jason Smit and Jim McCullagh filled the minors for the men while Tina Thompson was one of a select band who backed up after the Coffs Club Triathlon held earlier to lead in the ladies ahead of Nicola Johnstone.

In his final run as a New South Welshman before heading to the Sunshine Coast, George Carpenter led in the 2km runners followed a step or two later by Daniel Campbell with Joshua Guy close behind.

Romany Seemann led in the young ladies 10 seconds ahead of Caitlin Lobb who edged Janica Duncombe by one second to claim the runner-up spot.

Matthew Berrington was again the form runner in the slightly longer 5km staying well clear of Toby McCann while Jacinta Smithers won the ladies ahead of Fiona Bagley and Maddie Sadler.
