Kelly chalks one up for the chicks

WHILE the surfing spotlight has been on the boys lately, Kelly Delang from Emerald Beach chalked one up for the girls when she descended from nowhere to take out Cambo's Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage at Port Macquarie's Town Beach this week.

Now, they're calling Kelly a future superstar after she rolled a hot field including the tournament favourite, Emily Clapoudis, in a nail-biting finish.

Kelly defeated Fiona Casey of South West Rocks, and the Port pair of Clapoudis and Ashley Simms by a mere tenth of a point.

Ranked second on the leader board heading into the final, Kelly was able to pull through when it counted most after trailing Clapoudis most of the way.
