Dean is keeping faith with the Wanderers

FRIDAY night's Hyundai A-League match against the Central Coast Mariners may be a friendly but don't expect the Western Sydney Wanderers to be taking it lightly.

According to Wanderers goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis, it doesn't matter who the Asian club champions are playing, coach Tony Popovic wants the team firing on all cylinders.

"The boss 'Poppa', he's massive on making sure every game we go out there with a winning mentality, a professional attitude and that we start well no matter if it's FFA Cup, A-League or a friendly," Bouzanis said.

During this pre-season the 24 year-old has been working hard on his game under the tutelage of former Socceroo Zeljko Kalac.

With veteran goalkeeper Ante Covic transferring to Perth, Bouzanis believes the hard work will hold him in good stead for more starting appearances in the upcoming season.

"I feel I'm really progressing well but mainly for me it's about trying to have consistency in my game," he said.

As a teenager, Bouzanis was described by former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez as "the best goalkeeper in the world for his age" and subsequently made appearances for the Reds' under-18 and reserve teams.

This 'keeper is looking forward though not back.

"This year there's a lot of new faces in the team and it's freshened up the place," he said.

The Wanderers will be using this week's training camp in Coffs Harbour as well as Friday night's match as a final tune-up for next week's FFA Cup match against Brisbane Roar.
