Judo giants win gold

A PAIR of gold medals for judo came back to the Coffs Coast this week from the Pan Pac Masters Games.

Instructor from Kuzushi Judo Club at Toormina, Cliff Illingworth, joined Coffs Harbour veteran Helmut Zelno on the winner’s podium during the Gold Coast-based tournament.

At 72 years of age, Helmut was the oldest competitor in the competition and proved you’re never too old by winning his medal in the over-70 division.

A prolific prizewinner when- ever he travels to events around Australia, Cliff won gold in the lightweight division for those between 66kg and 72kg and aged 37-44 years.

He also picked up a bronze medal in the lightweight open division.
