Josh’s picks for an accessible Valentine’s Day venue
IT'S a tried and tested tradition - along with the chocolates and roses on Valentine's Day, it's nice to take your significant other out to dinner.
But if you're confined to a wheelchair or have a disability, picking the right restaurant can be a challenge.
Happy to take the trouble out of deciding is Inclusion Access' Josh Marshall.
While he's conscious that many establishments in Toowoomba work hard to ensure their venues are as accessible as possible and accommodate for all customers, here are his picks for Valentine's Day venues that offer a wonderful combination of ambience, quality, customer service and accessibility.
WITH on-street disability parking available right out front of the restaurant, accessing George Banks is a breeze.
The level entryway from Margaret St includes a lift inside the main door that takes you direct to the rooftop level restaurant.
The restaurant's layout allows Mr Marshall plenty of room to navigate his wheelchair through it, amenities are accessible (LH) and table heights are adjustable - much appreciated as a wheelchair user.
To top it off, wait staff are happy to bring the bill to your table.
DISABILITY parking is available right out front of Rosalie House.
There is a small amount of crusher dust to navigate to get to the front door, the entry ramp has an about four degree gradient.
There is an accessible toilet (RH) inside the cellar door and while the wine tasting counter is quite high (about 1.5m), staff are happy to accommodate and serve at your table.
The vineyard tables outside are also accessible.
PICNIC Point offers ample parking close to the venue entry and there is a small step ramp to access the building - something Mr Marshall personally finds very easy to navigate,
Table height is adequate (about 700mm) and most tables do not have an under table occlusion.
There is an accessible toilet (LH) with a heightened toilet seat which will be of great comfort to some customers.
YOU have options for disability parking with Encores at the rear of the premises, and also across the road in the large council car park.
Table height is good (around 729mm) however there is some under-table occlusion.
The accessible toilet (LH) is at the rear of the venue and Mr Marshall said that as the restaurant was very popular, he loved that he could book a table closer to that area for a more relaxed experience.
