Jones suspects Rickuss of leaking PUP rumours

IT is no secret that Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones and Lockyer MP Ian Rickuss do not see eye to eye.

And that friction shows no sign of abating after Cr Jones told the QT he suspected Mr Rickuss was behind rumours sweeping political circles that Cr Jones was set to run in the 2015 state election as a candidate for the Palmer United Party (PUP).

Mr Rickuss, who holds the seat of Lockyer for the LNP, has denied the claims and said Cr Jones should look at his own backyard.

Cr Jones, a member of the LNP, has told the QT he had no intention to run for state or federal politics.

Cr Jones said rumours of his PUP candidacy were coming from the office of Mr Rickuss.

"I'm sure they think I pose a threat to him, but I don't," Cr Jones said

"I've always been a member of the LNP, and he (Rickuss) does upset me as an individual, but I have never considered running in the next election.

"Rickuss has been going on about if for years.

"I have always supported the man, but he started on with this caper about pre-selection.

He thought I was going to oppose him in the pre-selection because I am a member of the LNP.

"When I didn't get involved in the pre-selection he started on about me running for the PUP."

Mr Rickuss laughed off the claims.

"The only thing I worry about with Steve is that he manages the council appropriately," Mr Rickuss said.

"That is my biggest concern… that the dysfunctional Lockyer Valley Regional Council operates efficiently."
