Jones back for a second term

STEVE Jones has been returned to office for a second term as mayor of the Lockyer Valley Regional Council.

Cr Jones has received about 61.07 per cent of the vote in the two-horse race with more than 16,000 votes counted and only a handful left to count.

He will now set about continuing the massive flood recovery task facing the Lockyer Valley following the devastating events of January 2011 when the region made world headlines.

Flooding caused more than $220 million worth of damage to council assets alone.

Cr Jones thanked the people of the Lockyer Valley for their continuing support and wished his competitor for office all the best into the future.

"The people of the Lockyer Valley have given me and this council the mandate to continue building on the good work of the past four years including the flood recovery effort which continues," he said.

"It was also pleasing to see the voters of the Lockyer Valley returning the majority of sitting councillors which really shows a great level of satisfaction for the performance of the inaugural council over the past four years."
