Coffs Harbour City Council Mayoral candidate John Donaldson. Rob Wright/The Coffs Coast Advoc

Vote for me: John Donaldson

MY name is John Donaldson, I am standing as mayor and a councillor. I come from Glen Innes, where I accumulated more than 20 years as a local government councillor, including a period as deputy mayor.

I have experience in farming, mining and more than 30 years in the jewellery trade (six of which were here in Coffs Harbour as Donaldson's Jewellers). As well as being a member of the North West County Council prior to it being amalgamated. My policies are:

To put in place six monthly open community/council meetings (everybody come) where the community is given the opportunity to present ideas and put suggestions to the council for consideration that would eventually see greater economic and social development.

Encourage greater trans- parency, vision, enthusiasm, and greater communication and listening to concerns.

Be conscious of planning needed for the expected popu- lation increase of about 20,000 people by 2030.

Support the highway bypass, manufacturing, education, health, tourism, and business.

Visionary planning for Jetty foreshores and Park Beach as local community and tourist potentials.

Support cruise ship visitations to encourage more jobs and tourism (funded by grants/private enterprise, not the council.) .

Tidy up Coffs Creek to a be a Coffs Coast tourist attraction.

Encourage the concept of an arts centre.

Implementation of flood control plans.

Encourage discussions with the communities of Woolgoolga, Sawtell, Coramba and places in between and beyond and assist them with their aspirations.

Take an in-depth interest into the need to properly maintain all council infrastructure and facilities.

Take an in-depth interest in council's accounting systems, administration methods, and procedures.
