Jockey flies in to ride Takeover

JOCKEY Jay Ford boards a direct flight from Singapore today for a hit-and-run mission to Perth.

Ford will ride Coffs Harbour champion Takeover Target in final fast work on Thursday leading into the G2 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot on the weekend where the sprinter is now a warm $2.40 favourite against cult hero, Apache Cat.

Ford was over the moon when told the great horse had drawn the inside gate in the field of nine.

“That's perfect and Joe (Janiak) tells me the horse is great and I loved what I saw when he went the exhibition run with Apache Cat,” he said.

It will be Ford's first ride in the West since he competed there in an apprentice's series five years ago.

“It was a great experience and good to have ridden on the track before,” he added.

Apache Cat's rider Corey Brown left for Perth yesterday after attending a former jockey's reunion with his father Jack in his hometown, Wingham.
