Jeff Horn and Tszyu camps to meet for talks on proposed bout
IT'S not so simple - That's the noise coming out of the Jeff Horn-Tim Tszyu negotiations.
And according to Main Event's Ben Damon, both camps will meet on Friday in a final attempt to iron things out.
The biggest fight in Australian boxing was seen as a relative sure-thing when reports broke of an agreed upon 60-40 split in Horn's favour. But since then, negotiations haven't progressed in terms of nailing down a date and venue.
"There have been some discussions but, really, we haven't got far in terms of setting up exactly when and where this fight will take place," Damon said on Fox Sports News.
"Team Tszyu, they're pretty keen for Tim to fight as soon as possible. And they've said, 'We have a deadline of this Friday for negotiations to take place and this all to be agreed upon.'
"With that, the Horn camp have said, 'OKy, let's meet on Friday and nut the rest of it out.'"
Tszyu's promoter, Matt Rose, and Horn's man, Dean Lonergan, will look to make the fight happen "sooner rather than later", but a fight that was originally projected for the start of 2020 might have to be pushed back.
"It's certainly complicated when you've got the two biggest stars in the sport in the country at the moment," Damon said.
"They're at different stages of their careers, of course. They've had different levels of success.
"There's a big question mark as to what happens in the ring, as well. And there's varying degrees of confidence within either camp.
"So yeah, a lot to be figured out. But I think it makes sense to get this fight done some time this year.
"Whether that is in the first half of the year - most likely in April - or if it takes place as the second fight for these two fighters, well, we'll know after Friday."
Both fighters are coming off wins last month - Horn exacting revenge on Michael Zerafa, and Tszyu outclassing Jack Brubaker.
