TRAINER Joe Janiak is about to hit the international trail again but this time without equine pal Takeover Target.
‘Archie’ will be in the paddock during March when Joe leads a tour party to the world’s richest horse race, the Dubai World Cup.
Organised by Melbourne racing personality Stephanie Carey, the Middle Eastern adventure departs on March 21.
“My dad, Michael, is a horse dentist and we first met Joe when he and Takeover raced in Hong Kong,” she revealed.
“The friendship grew when Joe moved to Newmarket for the Royal Ascot carnival and we were working with Godolphin and all the Aussies would try to meet up after work at the end of the day.
“He is such a lovely, unique man and I am very thrilled to have him support our new venture, Carey Equine Racing Tours.”
Janiak shares the admiration.
“Stephanie has all the contacts and anybody who books on the tour will have a fantastic time,” the trainer said.
“The first time we met was in Hong Kong and then as I travelled around with the horse to Singapore and England, we kept bumping into the pair of them.
“Michael often did Takeover Target’s teeth for me and this little group of us would stick together.
“I’ve never been to Dubai and when I ran into Stephanie at the Warrnambool races in May I kidded her about taking me along on the trip.
“She said I could come on board and I can promise anybody who joins the tour they are going to see things and meet people they would never have imagined they would experience.”
Leading up to the racing carnival, the tour party will attend the Arabian Nights Desert Party at the invitation of HRH Sheikh Mohammed where they will mingle with owners, trainers and jockeys from all over the world, along with hosts from the royal family.
For those who take the option, the opportunity to meet international racing personalities over dinner at the restaurant owned by world famous jockey Frankie Dettori is also available.
Sightseeing tours are available to the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, along with a shopping trip to Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates.
“The big attraction is the night races at Meydan which is right out in the desert and the program worth 26.25 million USD,” Carey added.
“It is an extraordinary sight, very spectacular with feature races including the UAE Derby, the Godolphin Mile and the World Cup.”
