Janette is number one for fundraising

WHAT a great start to Jeanette Alley's 2009 cancer fundraising project.

On New Year's morning at the busy Valla Beach Resort shop, resort manager Terry Fulton, pledged to double whatever funds Mrs Alley raises from today's head shave.

In a split second $500 became $1000 and that's before the 1pm event when visitors at the busy summer holiday park will be handing over their dollars to the cause.

“I've been here for a long time and I know a lot of the guests,” Mrs Alley said.

“Some of them have been coming for over 30 years and I've watched their kids grow up.

“I thought now would be a good time - and it will be a bit of entertainment.

“The kids are really looking forward to it ... but I'm starting to feel a bit nervous. I've never had my head shaved before!”

Mrs Alley, who is in remission from her own battle with cancer, said watching the recent pain of two friends going through chemotherapy is what decided her 'to be brave for a shave'.
