Girlfriend model scouted on beach
TAKE a good look at this local face – you might next see it on magazine covers across the nation.
Toormina’s Jacqui McGrath, 14, is still pinching herself after beating 500 other teens to be named a state finalist in the 2010 Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search last week.
“Ever since I was scouted on the beach I have been researching modelling and the wonderful opportunities it offers and I thought I’d give it a go,” Jacqui said.
Jacqui entered Australia’s most prestigious and longest running modelling competition online as “a bit of fun” and couldn’t believe it when she got the phone call to say she was one of 500 girls chosen to compete in the heats at Westfield Chatswood in Sydney.
“I didn’t really tell anyone because I didn’t want to get my hopes up, but my family went down to Sydney and had a bit of a holiday at the same time,” she said.
Much to Jacqui’s surprise, she was named as one of the seven state finalists.
“I was so shocked, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“Now I think a few more people know and they’re all really pleased and supportive. My long-term goal is to be a family lawyer, but I think this will be a great experience so I’ll just take it as it comes.”
Now she plays the waiting game. National finalists will be contacted by the judges during August and an overall national finalist will be announced at an event in Sydney in November.
Editor of Girlfriend magazine Sarah Cornish was impressed with all the finalists.
“The enthusiasm, encouragement and energy apparent between entrants was great to see – all entrants should be very proud,” Ms Cornish said.
The overall winner of The Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search for 2010 will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Sydney to feature in a Girlfriend five- page fashion feature; star on the cover of Love2Shop within Girlfriend; a two-year contract with Chic Model Management; a meeting with NEXT Model Management agency in New York; a Rimmel London and Girlfriend prize pack, and; exposure in a Rimmel London advertorial.
