'It's not going to be easy': Parkrun to honour crash victim

A COAST father says he has been "melted" by a tribute set to go ahead this weekend in honour of his son, who was killed in a horrific car crash last Friday.

Bailey Pleydell, 18, was a passenger in a car that collided head-on with another on the Bruce Highway, sending shock waves through the Coast community.

Parkrunners across the Coast will be donning black armbands this weekend in a mark of respect for Bailey and to show their support for his father Cameron Pleydell.

Mr Pleydell is a long-time member of the Coast's parkrun community and both of his sons regularly joined him in 2014 and 2015.

At Kawana park run a bell will ring at the finish line when the stopwatch reaches 00.25.24- Bailey's last parkrun finish time and his all-time parkrun personal best.

"It's melted my heart," Mr Pleydell said.

"It's nice to know that there is so much support there."

Armbands will be provided at Brightwater parkrun, for any runners who would like them.

Event director Andrew Mills said a fellow volunteer Sill Trahar suggested the idea, and they agreed it was important to show their support for a number of reasons.

"Firstly Cameron has given a lot to parkrun over the years and he was instrumental in getting the Kawana Parkrun to go ahead," Mr Mills said.

"He needs support right now and he will in three, six, twelve months time.

"We're going to do everything we can to support him now and into the future."

Mr Pleydell will say a few words before the Brightwater parkrun.

"It's not going to be easy for him to speak on Saturday and I'm sure it won't be easy for many of the parkrunners to hear," Mr Mills said.
