World's fastest broadband is here

COFFS Harbour residents now have access to the world’s fastest national mobile broadband service with the release of the new Telstra BigPond Ultimate USB Modem.

Previously available only to selected corporate and business customers, the device is now available in Coffs Harbour and provides users with mobile broadband speeds on par with what they currently experience at home or in the workplace.

Telstra Country Wide area general manager for North Coast NSW, Michael Sharpe, said the launch comes as new research released today reinforces the need for faster mobile broadband, revealing that over two-thirds of regional Australians used broadband as an essential tool at work.

“Technology plays a huge part in the workday of many regional Australians, with a third saying they spend up to half their working day online,” Mr Sharpe said.

Over two-thirds of regional Australians believe faster broadband will make them more productive, so the launch of the new Telstra BigPond Ultimate USB Modem will help bridge the divide between regional Australia and the world’s great cities.

The research also revealed better technology and the increased flexibility of employers were the top two reasons why Australians are now working remotely.

“Technology plays a huge part in allowing Australians to work outside the office and embrace better work life balance,” Mr Sharpe said. “With such increasing uptake in mobile working, we may well be witnessing a cultural shift in the way Australians work.”

In fact, almost 80 per cent of Australian employees surveyed say they would take up the option of working outside the workplace if their employer offered this along with a fast, reliable mobile broadband network.

However not all bosses are keeping up, with 40 per cent of employers surveyed saying they did not allow staff to work outside the office.
