It’s been a wet week but not really a wet year

IT'S been a wet few days since Christmas but a look through the 2014 records shows Sunday's deluge wasn't quite the wettest day of the year.

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded 80.4mm of rain on Sunday. Just short of the year's wettest day which was on August 27 when 84.2mm of rain fell.

Overall though it hasn't been a big year for rainfall.

If it wasn't for the wet weather we've experienced over the past few days, the annual rainfall figure would've been a lot less than the average amount.

As it stands, 2014 has seen 1292mm fall in Coffs Harbour. A figure still well short of the average annual rainfall amount of 1676.3mm.

While there was less rain this year, it was hardly a period that saw Coffs Harbour swelter under the hot sun.

The hottest day of the year was only a fortnight ago when the mercury reached 33.6 degrees.

The start of the year saw a couple of hot days but there were only a dozen days this year where the temperature reached 31 degrees or higher. Although today's expected top temperature of 33° could see today's date sneak into the list of 2014's hottest days.

When it came to having to rug up first thing in the morning, there was a three week period from late June through to mid-July which had residents looking for some heat.
