It can't get much closer than these games
SOFTBALL: It was a night of thrillers in round two of the Gladstone Softball Incorporated season on Friday.
Souths Blue rebounded from a 9-1 loss against Telfords 10 days ago to edge out Souths White in a 11-10 nail-biter.
Souths Blue player Joanne Beach said neither team were able to shut each other down.
"Blue capitalised on some errant pitching combined with timing hits by Sindy MacFarlane and Kellie Pengelly to score four runs at last at bat to come from behind to win,” Beach said.
It was a much improved performance from Whites which suffered a 15-0 win against Souths Blue in round one.
The win improves Blue's record to 2-1 and a draw because that's exactly what happened against Telfords.
Both teams could not be separated at the end of play at 5-5 although Souths Blue held a 2-0 lead.
"From that point on Telfords slowly took control of the game by scoring runs over the next few innings whilst shutting down Blue's batters,” Beach said.
Jill Shultz led Telfords' offence by having a 1000 batting average.
Souths Blue Tracey French followed up a strong batting performance in first game and she had another two safe hits in the second.
Meanwhile the junior competition commences this Wednesday with two T-Ball and four 3-Pitch teams which will include a new team from the Ambrose/Mt Larcom/Raglan area.
"These teams will play on Wednesdays from 4.30pm,” Beach said.
"We are also running a Batter up program each Wednesday from 4pm and we have gone with two late get teams for Junior Fast Pitch this season to ensure better quality games for the kids and they will play on Fridays at 4.30pm.
