Rollerblading, massages: Is Youi Australia's best employer?

WOULD you like a massage at work today? How about the chance to take a bicycle for a spin in your lunch break?

These are just some of the options insurer Youi is making available to the 900-plus employees at its Kawana headquarters.

Youi's "YourLife program" has only been running for 14 months, but has already snapped up a national award.

It won the Australian HR Awards' Best Health and Wellbeing Program at a prestige event in Sydney last Saturday.

Head of Communications Trevor Dewitt appeared more chuffed with the impact the program was having on staff than on the latest edition to the trophy cabinet.

"In the 14 months since launching YourLife, we've had 4525 attendances to activities we have run, with approximately 90% of staff getting involved," he said.

"We run on average 17 activities a month on-site.

"We've seen dozens of smokers kick the habit, marathons run and hundreds of kilos lost."

The program focuses on three aspects of making life better - health, wellbeing and wealth.

Employees have a chance to be involved in running, personal training classes, ice skating, stand-up paddle boarding and more sessions.

There are also yoga classes and onsite health-check-ups, chiropractic screenings, photography lessons and a masseuse who visits twice a month.

And for those concerned about balancing the budget, there is a chance to listen to finance experts' advice on savings plans and mortgage comparisons.

YourLife co-ordinator Ryan McGrory said most options were free or heavily subsidised and were available to all staff, irrespective of their performance.

Last week, about 30 staff went rollerblading.

"It's not about your performance, it what's you get when working here," he said.
