Is Ben Barba set to be cut from Broncos?

THIS time last year Brisbane was trumpeting the signing of Dally M Medal winner Ben Barba from the Bulldogs as its biggest player recruit in years.

Now it seems the Broncos are ready to show the try-scoring utility the door under incoming coach Wayne Bennett.

Barba and former Sydney Roosters prop Martin Kennedy could both be looking for new NRL clubs next season.

Barba, who secured a release from the Bulldogs on compassionate grounds to move to Brisbane to be with his partner and two daughters, is rumoured to be high on Cronulla's shopping list to replace disgraced playmaker Todd Carney who was dumped mid-season after one indiscretion too many.

Brisbane has secured the service of Raiders playmaker Anthony Milford - regarded as one of the most exciting talents in the NRL - to partner Ben Hunt in the halves.

With Bennett bringing Darius Boyd back to the club to play fullback after stints with him at the Dragons and Knights, it leaves Josh Hoffman on the outer and Justin Hodges returning to his usual position in the centres.

Hoffman has already been told to look around for a new club, with Milford's former club Canberra ready to strike.

Former Brisbane captain Sam Thaiday said Bennett was trying to stamp his authority on the team by making some tough calls.

"At the end of the day he has got to have a squad he can work with in the future," Thaiday said.

"It probably comes down to form and Ben probably didn't show the form we wanted him to show, and Wayne wants a squad he has picked."
