Editorial - Saturday, July 11: Inspirations in life to all

LIFE is such a precious thing and the power of faith and determination is unquestionable.

The strength we can draw from Reverend Marion Tanfield's story today is an amazing thing.

Many in the community have conveyed their sincere wishes to Marion and her family, which is how we came to find out about the foundation that will be established in her honour.

Another great life-defining legacy that moved Coffs Harbour this week was the tribute to David Stevens in State Parliament highlighting his work as a disability services advocate.

Catherine Cusack's words shared with the state exactly what people in the community have known for years about David.

It was with sadness yesterday we learnt about the passing of Mac Werner, a man who dedicated so much of his life saving others through Dads in Distress.

"Mac Werner manned the phone lines for around 10 years," DIDS founder Tony Miller, OAM, wrote in tribute to his mate.

"He was a big man with a big heart. Mac talked down literally hundreds if not thousands over the years from suicide.

"He just did what he had to do. While many burnt out Mac just kept going until the big heart finally gave in."

Dads in Distress will today celebrate the life of a man, described as "a true, Australian, a true lifesaver and a true hero".
