Innovative Isabelle's smart idea

SHE'S not only a budding scientist of note.

Year 12 student Isabelle Capell-Hattam of Coffs Harbour High School is also now an innovative fund raiser.

A thirst for knowledge and a passion for science has meant Isabelle was selected to attend the Euroscience Open Forum held in Dublin.

"A chance to go to Dublin is incredible," Isabelle said.

Before jetting off, Isabelle must take on the difficult task of fund-raising approximately $10,000 to cover costs.

With the help of a mentor she's set up smartcoffs.com.au, where local businesses can buy advertising spots and have their business promoted both within Australia and internationally.

A raffle has also be run to help fund her trip.

While funds are steadily coming in any sponsorship or donations from people, local businesses and Rotary Clubs are deeply appreciated by Isabelle and her family.

"In the next couple of years I will be making some career-shaping decisions - so to have the chance to experience cutting edge science at an international level is a fantastic springboard into the future," she said.

The time in Dublin will provide a real understanding of science in action on a global scale.

Participants also have a unique opportunity not only to network with peers and leading scientists from all over the world - but also to travel and build inter-cultural awareness, on their own initiative.
