Injuries plague North Coast team

AFL North Coast representative coach Peter Chadwick must have broken a mirror or walked under a ladder such is the amount of bad luck he’s enduring in the lead up to this Saturday’s match against the Tamworth/Armidale league.

Three weeks ago Chadwick had a strong squad of 25 players selected that was going to continue North Coast’s dominance of representative matches in Northern NSW that has lasted for more than a decade.

Now the coach has been left to wonder how he’s going to line-up the final 22.

“Unfortunately it’s the taller players who are out so we’ve got no height,” Chadwick said.

“It will be a challenge, it won’t be a walk in the park by any stretch.

“That’s okay, though. We all like a challenge.”

Perennial team member Mark Couzens will be missing on Saturday due to a hamstring injury and at this stage only two of his Sawtell team-mates will be making the trip to Armidale. An incredible thought considering how much the Saints have dominated the competition in 2010.

The curse appears to only be affecting those north of the Bellinger River though.

Half the team will be made up of players from Port Macquarie and Nambucca Valley.

“So long as we’ve got 22 players willing to work hard we’ll be okay,” Chadwick said.
