Work on library inconvenient for now but will pay off

WORK has started on Grafton's new $8 million library and the council is asking members of the public to remain patient as two-thirds of the Pound St car park is closed for construction.

Mayor Richie Williamson said only 99 of the usual car parking spaces would be available, seven of which were disabled spaces.

The rest of the car park will be occupied with machinery, site offices, materials, worker parking and works for the Sir Earle Page Library and Education Centre, due for completion in March next year.

"This is a very exciting time for our community," Mayor Richie Williamson said.

"Council will also look into whether there is a need to reduce the number of time-limited parking spaces and putting in place a longer time limit in close proximity to the site, in order to provide more parking options for those who need longer than the current one-hour limit."

For more information go to council's website and look under Library Services.
