In court on seven attempt to kill charges

A TRUCK driver accused of ploughing into a Maryborough home in an attempt to kill the seven people inside, has fronted court.

Dennis Ian Harris, 53, faces seven counts of attempted murder, one count of arson and related driving offences over a crash and subsequent fire which left a 16-year-old girl with serious burns earlier this year.

Police will allege a mother and her children were forced to flee their Oakhurst home after a prime mover tore through a wall and burst into flames. The teenage girl, her mother and Mr Harris all suffered burns and have since recovered.

Lawyers for Harris previously asked for the case to be heard in Brisbane while they awaited the results of a psychiatric report but the prosecution argued it was in the public interest to have the charges dealt with locally.

Harris fronted the Maryborough Magistrates Court briefly yesterday and was remanded in custody.

A committal hearing has been set down for September.
